Kimchi Pasta with Bacon and Sesame Seeds
Though it may not sound sexy, a lot of the time dinner is inspired by a way to clear the fridge of small amounts of remaining ingredients. I knew this recipe for Kimchi Pasta with Bacon and Sesame Seeds would be the perfect way to use up the kimchi we had purchased for the kimchi pancakes recipe.
Alterations: I used whole wheat fettuccine and used chili garlic sauce in place of the red pepper...

Crockpot Spicy Tangerine Chicken
A while ago I pinned a recipe for Crockpot Orange Chicken on Pinterest. This week when I went to revisit it, I read through the comments and saw that many people thought it was a little too sweet and citrus-flavored, so I decided to alter the recipe to spice it up a bit.
Crockpot Spicy Tangerine Chicken
Ingredients
1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs (cut into 2 inch pieces)

Squash and Mushroom Empanadas
Apparently yesterday was National Pie Day (which I always thought fell on 3.14). Since it was also another Meatless Monday, I thought it would be fitting to make a vegetarian savory pie. I chose to try out Bella Eats take on a Gourmet recipe for Butternut Squash and Mushroom Emapanadas.
Alterations: I made several. I subbed my leftover Moroccan squash for the butternut squash, used red onion...

Spicy Chipotle Grilled Chicken Tacos aka Patriot...
Since we knew we were spending the day indoors watching the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl, we faked some time outside by grilling some tacos on our balcony during the game. We were even able to get together all the ingredients without leaving the house. Utilizing my leftover chiles in adobo, I crafted a marinade based on this Epicurious recipe for spicy chipotle marinade. We grilled the...

Spicy Winter Squash Pasta
Because I liked the name, I impulsively bought a Moroccan squash at the farmer’s market. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with it but knew something would inspire me. Thank goodness for Food and Wine’s emails because they pointed me in the direction of this Mario Batali recipe for Cavatelli with Spicy Winter Squash, which brought both warmth and heat to a chilly winter...

Slow Cooked Salmon and Wine Braised Cabbage
Though I know there are more sustainable options out there, salmon is one of my favorite things in the world. It is definitely my top fish to cook as well, as it is one of the harder ones to mess up. So when I saw one of my favorite food bloggers pin this recipe for Slow-Cooked Salmon on Pinterest, I knew I would have to go to the market and make myself some salmon this week. Ever since I made...

Chipotle Chili with Brussel Sprouts and Sweet...
In February, I plan to do a clean foods detox, which essentially means I’m going to be going vegan without caffeine or booze for a while. I figure I should ease my body into this cleanse by cooking some vegan meals this month as well. Upon recommendation from some friends, I purchased Isa Chandra’s Appetite for Reduction but hadn’t tried out many recipes yet. This weekend we...

Kimchi Pancakes
Last week we picked up some kimchi from Dave’s Gourmet Korean Food at the Hollywood Farmer’s market. We have been wanting to try to make okonomiyaki with kimchi for awhile and also wanted to try making smaller (instead of one giant) pancakes. Last night we tried out the Serious Eats recipe for Kimchi Pancakes. We also made a spicy dipping sauce to accompany the pancakes.
Alterations:...

Moroccan Carrot Salad with Harissa & Moroccan...
Inspired by a Food 52 cookbook recipe for Moroccan Carrot Salad with Harissa and some lovely carrots I picked up at the Hollywood Farmers Market, I decided to make a Moroccan salad themed dinner. I paired the carrot salad with a Moroccan Shrimp and Broccoli Couscous Salad recipe I spotted on Food.com.
Alterations: I used a mixture of about six various colored carrots so I cut the rest of the...

New York Style Pizza
edit
My boyfriend had been itching to try out new pizza dough recipes. Though he likes the Marcella Hazan recipe we’ve been using for the last year, he was interested in trying out NY and Neapolitan style crust recipes. While doing his research, he learned that many other recipes require not just three hours of rising but a slow cold overnight rise. This attempt, he chose to try...

Salted Caramel Apple Pie
I’m not a huge sweets fan, however you can dunk anything in salted caramel and I’d probably like it. Continuing my trend of holiday apple desserts, I had to make Four and Twenty Blackbirds Salted Caramel Apple Pie as the finale for our Christmas dinner.
Alterations: Per usual, I cheated on the pie crust and used a Pillsbury roll out style and even used my mom’s nify crust...

Christmas Dinner: Roast NY Strip Loin, Scalloped...
This year I learned the lesson that many mothers and grandmothers around the world can surely attest to: cooking a holiday meal takes forever and then everyone eats it in less than an hour. Luckily for me, even though my mom was out of commission with a couple of busted ankles, I still got some seated help peeling potatoes and apples and some much needed dish duty from my dad.
For the main...
